John 19:30
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished!” Then, bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.
Dear Heavenly Father
Are there three other words that could be put together to have a more significant impact on mankind? Perhaps “Let there be!” From when you first spoke those words, your plan to save man from the destruction of sin was carved out to redeem us from all our sins. Lord, we look at your plan of salvation you gave us through the Old Testament. It is remarkable how you maintained Adam’s line through Abraham and David so that your Son could come to the earth and pay the price for our sins. These words, “It is finished!” bring such sweet comfort knowing the entire debt of our sin was paid in full; nothing remains of that debt. All your requirements that pointed ahead to Jesus’ coming were also fulfilled. Your plan of salvation was completed; thus, through your Son’s death, you have saved us from all our sin.
We look forward to the day when we will breathe our last on this earth. Will Jesus greet us? Telling us once again, “It is finished!”—what a glorious three words in the English language. How beautiful it will be when our race is done. We are finally home in heaven with you. Father, thank you for creating us then sending your Son to redeem us. And finally, sending your Spirit to create faith in us to believe your words as true. Amen.
