Matthew 12:40

[Jesus said] For just as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish for three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Dear Lord Jesus,

You told your disciples that you would be in the grave for three days. You kept your word, you died, and three days later, you rose victoriously from your tomb. In doing so, you defeated death for us. We now have the hope of everlasting life, for those who believe in you will never taste eternal death. That first Holy Saturday, your followers mourned for your loss; they thought all hope was lost. We thank you today that we have the rest of the story. Death was your victory, and it is our victory as well. Because we have died with you through our baptisms, so in your resurrection, we will also live with you. Lord, help us prepare for tomorrow as we get to hear that glorious news, how you burst open the grave. Lord, thank you. Amen.

Because Jesus rose and lives, we too will live.
