Psalm 5:11-12

But let all who take refuge in you be glad. Let them sing for joy forever. You cover them with protection, so those who love your name rejoice in you. Yes, you bless the righteous, Lord. You surround them with your favor as a shield.

Dear Heavenly Father,

In your mercy, you have restored us to you. Because of our sinful nature, we are horrible sinners that deserve to be thrown to hell. Instead, you sent your Son to take on all our evil into himself; in our place, he suffered our punishment. We have been given a safe space with you. Through faith created by your Spirit, we trust Jesus has died for our sins and take refuge in you and in your word. There is nothing that can harm us. We might suffer a little while we are here on this earth, but there is nothing that can take our faith from us. You give us refuge, and we take cover in you. For all your protection, love, and mercy you have given us, we have nothing that we can present to you in return. Father, all that we have is already yours; please accept our thanksgiving and praise for all you do. Create in us new hearts that want to sing praises for all that you have done. You bless those who, by faith, have been made right with you. Your favor is our shield; thank you for wrapping us in your favor; there is nothing that can harm us with you on our side. Lord, thank you for loving us. Amen.

The Lord’s favor is the impenetrable protection wrapped around our soul; remaining in God’s word and sacraments, it is kept securely fastened.
