Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us get rid of every burden and the sin that so easily ensnares us, and let us run with patient endurance the race that is laid out for us. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who is the author of our faith and the one who brings it to its goal. In view of the joy set before him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of God’s throne.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for recording the history of your church, both the good and the bad your believers have done. As I go through this life, sin can easily tangle my feet; I get sidetracked on the things of this world and lose sight of you. I am constantly bombarded by the Devil, the world, and my own sinful flesh trying to get me off the run path daily you laid out for me. Other times I get impatient and keep asking, “Are we there yet?” Please give me the strength to run the race you have given me. I ask that you please send me your Spirit to retain my focus on Jesus—who was the author and perfector of my faith—through the trust your Spirit has given me. Jesus suffered the shame of the cross for me; he went to the cross to forgive my sins. Through hearing and studying your word, you sustain my faith through your Spirit. I have confidence in all this because you have set Jesus at your right hand, giving him the power and dominion over all creation. He speaks to you on my behalf because of the faith you created in me. Let me enjoy this peace I now have because of him. Forgive me whenever I am distracted and entangled in my sin; please dust me off and let me stay in the race. Amen.
