Psalm 69:13
But I direct my prayer to you, O Lord, for a time of favor. God, in the greatness of your mercy, answer me with the certainty of salvation from you.
Dear Lord Jesus,
While you were on this earth, you took on the flesh of your creation; you became like us. You know what it was like to have those around you hate and despise you for doing the right thing. In fact, when you saw the temple turned into a market, you drove out the animals and turned over the tables. Then your disciples remembered words from this very Psalm (69:9), “Zeal for your house consumes me.” You were hated by those who should have known you the best, the religious leaders. In all your struggles on this earth, you set the example for us to pray. You directed your prayer to your Father; you went to a secluded spot and prayed. You also taught your disciples and us to pray the perfect prayer, The Lord’s Prayer.
When life seems challenging for us, let us follow your example to pray when we do not know what lies ahead. Lord, hear our prayer when we feel overwhelmed by this world. Our problems seem pale compared to what you had to face; you knew what lay ahead of you, the cross. Please be our example as we look to you for help, especially when we face a world that seems dark and cold with sin. A time of favor is coming when this life is done, and we are in heaven with you. You already answered us with certainty because your life and death redeemed us from all our sins; our heavenly home is a sure hope. By your grace through faith, we are restored to you; salvation is ours. Lord, thank you for loving us. Amen.
