1 Corinthians 10:12-13
So let him who thinks he stands be careful that he does not fall. No testing has overtaken you except ordinary testing. But God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tested beyond your ability, but when he tests you, he will also bring about the outcome that you are able to bear it.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Let us look to these verses when we are tempted to sin. While on this side of heaven, we live as both sinners and saints, and sinning is not a matter of “if” we will fall into temptation but “when.” Lord, there is not one of us who should look confidently at their faith thinking, “I could never fall from God’s grace.” There are many examples in the Bible of those who fell from your grace but returned to you in repentance—Jonah, Abraham, David, Peter, and Paul. Lord, it is good to know you are faithful to us, and you will do all that you can to keep us from rejecting you; like David, you send us our “Nathans,” so we will also turn to Christ’s cross and repent.
Paul’s words give us hope that we will not be tested beyond what we can handle and bring the outcome of what we can bear. Give us the strength to hold fast to you, knowing that you have forgiven all our sins for Jesus’ sake. Because of him, we have eternal life, along with the sure hope of salvation. Thank you for being faithful to us when our faith slips. Amen.
