Matthew 13:44-46

“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid again. In his joy, he goes away and sells all that he has and buys that field. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls. When he found one very valuable pearl, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Dear Heavenly Father,

The path to the kingdom of heaven is such a wonderful treasure for all who find the way. This treasure is the forgiveness of sin, which came through your Son, Jesus; he has paid our way into the kingdom with his holy life and innocent death. All our sin and guilt he has removed forever; this is a tremendous gift of life and salvation. This gift is more valuable than anything that we could ever have or obtain on this earth. Our focus should be like those men in this parable who were willing to do whatever it takes to get this treasure and hold on to you. At the same time, there is nothing on this earth that could purchase this treasure because we receive this magnificent treasure by faith alone. Through hearing your Word and receiving your Holy Supper, we strengthen the faith you have given us. Give us ample opportunities and the desire to enhance our faith once again this week. Amen.

If you could receive a million dollars by going to church this Sunday, who would pass it up? This Sunday, receive a gift even more valuable, the gift of forgiveness and eternal life that was already won for you.
