John 1:1-5

In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him, everything was made, and without him, not one thing was made that has been made. In him was life, and the life was the light of mankind. The light is shining in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Dear Lord Jesus,

You are the Word that John was speaking about in this text. You know this world intimately because you were with the Father when everything was made. When you came to this earth, you set aside all your heavenly glory to become like us and live among us. You brought us the life when we were dead in our sins. John, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote that “the life was the light of mankind.” Our sins cover us in the shroud of darkness, and by nature, we are blinded by sin’s darkness. But when you came to this earth to be like us, you brought light into the world. Through you, your light pierces the darkness of our sin, and as the sun brings light to a new day, so do you bring light upon our sins. All our bumps and warts are exposed, but your love covers all our sins because you went to the cross to make payment for us our sins you have forgiven. Your love covers a multitude of sins. May we reflect the love you have showered upon us and forgive as you have forgiven us. What peace we gain through forgiveness! Give us the strength to love others with all their warts and bumps as well. We thank you that you have brought us your light. Amen.
