Romans 3:23-24

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

Dear Lord Jesus,

When we look in the mirror and see our sins, we realize the extent of how bad we are, and there is nothing we can do to change this. We cannot wish our sins away; they are still there. We cannot compare ourselves to others or do good things to make up for the bad. Either way, we still have all our sins attached to us. Every person falls short of your glory, which you said we are to live perfectly as your Father in heaven is perfect. And as soon as we break one sin, we are guilty of breaking them all. On our own, it seems hopeless, and why those who don’t know you would think, “let’s get all we can get out of this life.” But what they don’t know is there is so much more out there. You came and lifted our sins from us. We do not justify ourselves to you, but you justified us and declared us not guilty. Through your blood you shed on the cross, you bought us back from death to life. We now receive this gift by faith alone in you, our Rock and our Redeemer. Amen.

Realizing our sin and our sinful nature is where we begin to know God’s love and mercy. “We are saved by God’s grace received through faith. It is a gift from God that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8
