Ephesians 2:4-5

But God, because he is rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for reminding us of what you have done for us the way that you take care of us through your great love and mercy. By nature, we are sinful and do not deserve the blessing you give to us. We all come into this world dead in our sins, and someone dead cannot make themself alive again. The person whose heart has stopped takes another person to do CPR or the doctor to shock the heart, but the dead person can do nothing to restore themselves. We were spiritually dead in sin, and you sent Jesus to live that perfect life for us, to suffer for our sins, and die on the cross to defeat death for us. He restored us to life, and it was all by your grace and mercy we not only know you, but we believe in you. Please send your Spirit to create faith in the spiritually dead and strengthen the faith of those who trust in you. Give us opportunities to share your mercy and love with others. Amen

Grace is the God’s love we receive at Christ’s expense. Mercy is not receiving the punishment we deserve; instead, God delivers his grace and love.
