Micah 5:2

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, from you, will go out the one who will be the ruler for me in Israel. His goings forth are from the beginning, from the days of eternity.

Dear Lord Jesus,

You were born in a city called “The House of Bread” (Beth-lechem) and became the bread of life for us. From a place that was also known as being fruitful (Ephrathah.) Micah prophesied from this place a King would arise who would be more than a ruler of the nation, but the King from before creation to all eternity. You are that King. As a King, you provide, lead, and protect us. Along with the Father, you sustain all that we need for our physical and spiritual well-being. You sent your Spirit to us to create faith in our hearts to believe in you and your death. You also protect us from all harm that comes our way. To the point, you gave up your innocent life for us to destroy our enemies Satan, sin, and death. Daily you lead with your word and sacraments in our passage in life’s valley, and we are constantly reminded of our fragility with death’s shadow passing over us. But we have nothing to fear because you have defeated death, so one day, we will be home with you in your kingdom. Through the prophet Micah, the Father promised he would send someone to rule over Israel. This happened just as it was promised, and through faith in you, we became not only your subjects in your kingdom but also coheirs with you. All who believe in you have been adopted into your kingdom through your blood. Moreover, we are fed the bread of life to sustain us as we travel through this life until we make it home to you. Where we will live in peace and rest with you forever. Amen.

Our King has ruled from the beginning of creation. He came into this world by humble and lowly means to raise up all who believe in him. Through what was seen as meager and weak came almighty power to save.
