Luke 1:30-33

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, because you have found favor with God. Listen, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will never end.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

You sent your Son to be born of Mary. He would be no ordinary Son but a third of the heavenly Trinity. Lord, this news was so tremendous that you had to send Gabriel to tell Mary about what would happen through her. This was no small thing! This child was the true God in the flesh. The promise you had given to your people was about to be fulfilled. He would be called Jesus—God our salvation. He would be great, but many would not see his greatness. But, as our Savior, he lived a life of perfection, became a servant of all people then credited us with His righteousness. Her Son would defeat sin, death, and hell because he was also the Son of the Most High. The angel said, “He will be great,” because he redeemed all of us from our sins, granting us complete forgiveness for everything we have done. He has come from your chosen line, David’s line, to rule over us all for all time. Your Son has been our King and came to this earth veiled in human flesh so we would know him and also know you. You are a great and mighty God who created this earth and all us people, but you are also an intimate God who came to this earth and lived with us. Father, thank you for the blessing we have every Christmas season to remember this fantastic news brought to your humble servant Mary through your angel Gabriel. Amen.

Such great news came from this holy messenger. May we wait with as much anticipation for the trumpet fanfare of our Lord’s second coming. Do not be afraid. God has found favor in you; he sent his Son to remove all your sin and guilt.
