John 8:12

When Jesus spoke to them again, he said, “I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Dear Lord Jesus,

In the beginning, you created the light with your heavenly Father. Light came from you, but in the fall of man into sin, we were separated from you into sin’s darkness. As Eve brought mankind into the darkness of sin, so too does evening bring the darkness of the night. We all begin in that same darkness; this was why you were sent to bring light into the world, saving us from the condemnation of our sins. You are the light, a new day that has dawned on the peace of a new morning. When you were on the cross, sin’s darkness covered the midday as you suffered our punishment. However, as the light of the world, you overcame death and took into yourself all the darkness of sins. As you said, “you are the light of the world, and whoever follows you will never walk in darkness but have the light of life.” You paid our sin and guilt with the innocence of your precious blood, which come to us in faith; so by believing in you and your work, the forgiveness of sins and eternal life is ours. We do not trust on our own, but you sent your Spirit so we would have faith. So please, give us opportunities to share your light with others today. Amen.

The light is always very good; remain in Jesus’ light and know that you have the forgiveness of sins, which is the key to heaven.
