Psalm 85:8-9

I will hear what the true God, the Lord, will say. He indeed speaks peace to his people, to his favored ones, but do not let them turn to foolish ways. Surely his salvation is near for those who fear him, so that glory may dwell in our land.

Dear Heavenly Father,

You have given your people peace. Through the law and prophets of the Old Testament, you promised a Savior who would restore us back to your favor. Holy Scripture tells how the human race fell into sin and the destruction from our sins. But we were not left in that chaotic state of ruin; you sent us your Son so whoever would believe in him would have peace through the forgiveness of sins he won for us. Then through the apostles of the New Testament, they recorded the fulfillment of promises made. You demonstrated your love for every person by sending Jesus; he brought us your peace. Your Son came to this earth to suffer and die for our sins upon the cross. There Jesus forgave us our sins. Through your Holy Spirit, faith is created in us to deliver Jesus’ gift of forgiveness. We hear of your will, love, and peace for us in the Bible.

We also hear that while we still live on this earth, we will be tested and tempted, but your forgiveness brings us the peace about which you have spoken. So we pray for your Holy Spirit so, through faith, we will fear and trust in you and be confident in the salvation you have given us. Lord, may your glory dwell in us that it would be on display for the rest of the world to see. Grant us opportunities to share the good news of Jesus’ salvation with others around us. Amen.
