John 14:23

Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will hold on to my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

Dear Lord Jesus,

In the common table prayer, we pray with the psalmist: “Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest and let these gifts to us be blessed.” What a special request for you to be with us. In John’s words, he tells us you do not come alone; your Father, our heavenly Father, also comes to all who love you and hold to your word. Your word is a message of repentance and forgiveness. So, I pray that you would forgive me all my sins, clean out the cobwebs from being lazy in my faith, the cobwebs and dust that covers your word in my heart. Please remove the piles of garbage in the corners that result from my sinful thoughts, words, and actions. Since you are not alone in my heart, your Holy Spirit also resides in me. Please send your Spirit to renew and restore my faith; I pray the Holy Spirit would create a new heart in me that loves you. Thank you for going to the cross for my sins, so I know my sins are gone through you. Your resurrection proves that the Father has accepted your payment for all my sins. Therefore, let our reaction to our salvation be a love for you and others. Give us opportunities to share your word with others today so that you might dwell in them also. Amen.

Those who love Jesus also love the Father. Love for Jesus only comes through faith by the Spirit; the entire Trinity lives in them, and this is how God knows your every need; because he lives in you. God is that intimate and personal.
