Psalm 103:8

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in mercy.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you for being slow to anger. We have to admit that, at times, we can be quite a handful. How did you not just strike us all down and start over fresh with new people? You are compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in mercy. Because of your compassion, instead of punishing us, you sent your Son and struck him in our place. You sent Jesus here to take the world’s punishment into himself and, by your grace, offer forgiveness to all. It is through faith in Christ that your gift is delivered to us. Through faith, you do not give us what we deserve; instead, you show us compassion and love. Lord, thank you for being patient with us and for forgiving us. Thank you for sending us Jesus to redeem us. Many other people around us do not yet know you; give us the courage to share the good news of your compassion with them so in faith they will have everlasting life. Amen.

If God were not slow to anger and react as we do when people upset us, wouldn’t we be in a world of hurt? Especially if you consider our every thought. Wow, God is patient with us.
