Colossians 2:13-15

Even when you were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ by forgiving us all our trespasses. God erased the record of our debt brought against us by his legal demands. This record stood against us, but he took it away by nailing it to the cross. After disarming the rulers and authorities, he made a public display of them by triumphing over them in Christ.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you for Paul’s word to the Colossi Church and the love you demonstrated to us when we were dead in our sins. Considering our souls as lifeless is like the person whose heart has stopped on the operating table. There is nothing they can do, and it is in the Physician’s hands, and he uses the doctors to restart the heart through medicine. Jesus is our great Physician; with the Holy Spirit, life is brought to our dead souls. Jesus went to that cursed tree to suffer and die for our sins, and you erased the record of our iniquities, as Paul wrote (through the Holy Spirit), nailing the demands of the law to the cross with Jesus. Jesus lived that perfect life for us, then forgave our sins through his suffering and death, and this gift comes to us through faith in Jesus, our Savior. Because he fulfilled the law’s demands and has forgiven us, the law has now become a guide for us to show our love for you and others. The law is kept out of love for the forgiveness Jesus won for us. Let us share this good news of Jesus’ forgiveness with those who do not yet know you, so they will know you erased their debt through faith. Amen.
