Luke 12:32-34

[Jesus said] “Do not be afraid, little flock, because your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the needy. Provide money bags for yourselves that do not become old, a treasure in the heavens that will not fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Dear Lord Jesus,

We have nothing to worry about regarding our needs because God our Father has taken care of our every need. You call your believers your little flock. Sheep need a lot of care and tending as they seem to be prey to almost every predator, but you provide them with shepherds to care for and protect them. So sheep do not need earthly treasures, and you gave them shepherds to help them find food and water; you also provided them warm coats. We are your flock, and you are our Great Shepherd. How much more will you not take care of your flock? Your Father has set you over us to do whatever was needed to take care of us. So we ask ourselves, why worry about a thing? You already demonstrated your love for us by willingly going to the cross to die for all our sins, sacrificing yourself to destroy that roaring lion seeking to devour any one of us who might stray too far from you.

Lord, we have become a part of your flock through faith, trusting that you have and will provide and protect us. Through your word and baptism, the Holy Spirit began this faith in us to believe in all you have done for us. In the Bible, we hear how you suffered and died on the cross’ alter so that we have eternal life, and through faith, we become part of your flock. Our treasures are in your sheep pen, where you provide us with everything, both physical and spiritual. You give us our skillsets to be able to earn a wage to buy what we need to survive. You also provide us your word to feed and strengthen our faith; you have clothed us in your righteousness. These spiritual gifts are true gifts because they bring us eternal life. We pray that you would forgive us when we chase after the things of this world, redirect us to you, and your word to strengthen our faith so that we will have treasures in heaven.

Lord, we also pray that you would introduce us to those who do not know you as their shepherd. So that we can share the truths of repentance, forgiveness, and salvation with them, which only comes with being part of your flock, may we share the gospel’s seeds of faith with them. Amen.
