Job 5:17

Consider this: How blessed is the man whom God corrects! Do not reject the discipline of the Almighty!

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you for your discipline. Without being corrected when we err, we would happily travel life’s highway and play in Satan’s sin traffic, unaware of the final disaster waiting for us. If you left our sins unchecked, we would never turn to you to repent. Our sins are not a little problem, and you should eternally condemn us because of them. Instead, you sent Jesus to suffer our punishment; through him, you have offered repentance and forgiveness to us. It is there that Jesus knows his believers. He knows the person who has faith in him and trusts in the forgiveness he has won on the cross. So you use your discipline to correct and train us.

Please help us to see that when you discipline us, you correct us out of love. Perhaps that moment is uncomfortable. However, it is much better than spending the rest of eternity separated from you in hell. So please give us a spirit of thankfulness that accepts your discipline. Amen.

Would you just let your little children run out onto a busy highway to play? Then why should God let you play in Satan’s sin traffick? It is far more dangerous, and the results could last for eternity. God’s discipline is a blessing; he also does it out of love for you.
