1 Timothy 2:1-4

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all those who are in authority, in order that we might live a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We pray for all who have assumed positions in our government that you would use them to do your will. We pray through them; you bring about order and peace that your word will go out to many people. We must remember that during Paul’s time, he and all Christians were under attack by the Roman government for what they believed. Like Paul, true peace comes from knowing our Savior, who restores us to you. We also pray for our country’s citizens; let them recognize that while the government can bring peace, it is not the answer to the peace all desire; that comes only through you. While sin and guilt have torn all people from you, it is your desire for you to restore us, so you sent Jesus. He did not come to establish an earthly kingdom but to defeat all that would keep us from you, and you would have all people come to know you. Lord, we are reminded that this world is yours, so we pray you to use whatever comes the Christian’s way to spread your gospel message to all who do not know you. Lord, may the unbelievers hear about the forgiveness Jesus won for them on the cross, how he defeated death and the Devil for them. So through faith, they, too, will have the hope and trust in the eternal life that only comes through Jesus. So should our government become completely godless, we pray you would bend them to do your will. So we pray for them that you will use them according to what you would have them do, and that is spread your gospel message to the ends of the earth. May everyone know they have forgiveness in Jesus. Amen.

Pray for those in government to use them to do God’s will; may the Holy Spirit crush hardened hearts of unbelief so God’s word can work in hearts, and all receive the forgiveness of sins, God’s mercy, and his grace.
