1 Timothy 6:6-8
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly cannot take anything out. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be satisfied.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We pray for godliness with contentment that can only come through you. What does it take for our bodies to be satisfied? Paul wrote to Timothy, “Having godly contentment, we are satisfied with food and clothing.” But because of our sinful natures, we can quickly become discontent. We see the next shiny thing and think, “I have to have it, and then I’ll be happy.” Without Jesus’ forgiveness, we would end this life by chasing from one shiny thing to the next and being condemned eternally—separated from you forever. However, through faith in Jesus, this is not our situation. True contentment comes in knowing what our Savior has done for us. He took all our sins to the cross, so all the sins that come from our discontentment are forgiven. We have the peace of forgiveness knowing you have cared for our spiritual needs. You also provide all our bodies’ needs—food, clothes, shelter, and air. Lord, when we consider how you provide for us, it is in excess; you bless us through your spiritual and physical gifts. May we share our contentment with those who chase the world’s shiny things; so that they too will have peace in forgiveness knowing their Savior. Amen.

Know that Christ has completely forgiven your sins; this is godly contentment. Give thanks for the blessings God has given you that exceed what you need.
