Psalm 121:7-8
The Lord will watch to keep you from all harm. He will watch over your life. The Lord will watch over your going and your coming from now to eternity.
Dear Heavenly Father,
You know your followers and everything that we go through. You are not far away from us but are next to us; when we are sick or hurting, you know. We have the assurance that you keep us from all harm and watch over our lives which does not mean we will never stub a toe, get sick, or end up in the hospital. Instead, even if these things should occur, you keep us from the evil that could snatch us from your hand. While we suffer from the effects of sin in this world, we have the promise that you will sustain our faith, and we pray to strengthen it through your Word so that we will never reject you. You sent your Son to be our Savior to suffer and die on the cross because of our sins. Jesus’ death on the cross demonstrated your love and mercy to save us from our sins. However, while you keep every evil away from us, we are not robots that do whatever you have programmed us to do. You have given us all free will; without our faith strengthened, we could potentially walk away from all your love and protection at any time. What keeps us? Our faith you created in us by your Spirit; as it is refreshed and rejuvenated through your Word and sacraments, we remain in you to receive Jesus’ forgiveness and healing for all our sins. Therefore, we can be confident that you will not allow anything to snatch us from your hand. You saw when we came into the world, and you continue to watch over our pilgrimage on this earth until we are home with you in heaven. There we will be with you for the rest of eternity. Amen.

God gives his promise, and there we have a sure hope: he is always watching over those who believe. Moreover, to those who deny him, he still offers them the medicine of forgiveness for their sins—Jesus’ forgiveness, love, and mercy.
