Psalm 87:1-3

The city he founded is on the holy mountains. The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the other dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken about you, O City of God.

Dear Heavenly Father,

You established your temple in the city of Zion—Jerusalem the golden. It was there that you would bring salvation to the entire world. In your promise to the world to Adam and Eve, Abraham, Moses, David, and the prophets, your Son would be born not far from that glorious city. Jesus came to that house of bread—Bethlehem; he was the bread of life for all the world. So that everyone who believes in Jesus would have eternal life, it was in Jesus’ salvational work in Jerusalem that we were saved. He was the Lamb of God, our atonement sacrifice that paid for all sins. Jesus willingly went to that city to give up his life on that cross to pay the debt of our sins. We thank you for establishing that city where Jesus restored life to all who believe in him. Lord, we thank you for sending us your Son, who took our sins and gave us his righteousness in exchange. We pray that your Holy Spirit works in our hearts today and strengthens our faith; please give us the courage to share the good news which came out of Zion—our sins are forgiven. Amen.

What a remarkable place from where God restored life, but what is more remarkable is the One through whom we are made righteous—Jesus. Through him, all your sins are forgiven.
