Galatians 5:1

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not allow anyone to put the yoke of slavery on you again.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you that Jesus has set us free. Nothing in us has made us worthy to come before you, and we only deserve your condemnation. For this reason, you sent your Son to lift sin’s shackles off us. Jesus endured the penalty for our sins when he suffered on the cross. We add nothing to our justification. Your gifts of forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life all come to us through faith in our Savior, faith that your Holy Spirit began in us. Lord, we pray that you would sustain our faith, so we never choose to be shackled to our sins again. There are many spiritual teachers today who would attempt to bind us back to working toward salvation. Keep us vigilant for those who would falsely teach, either out of ignorance or deception, any activity on our part to obtain our salvation and would return us to that yoke of slavery.

We are free, and it is all because of Christ. Provide us opportunities to share our freedom—which comes only through Jesus—with those who do not know about his love and forgiveness. So that they, too, can be free from sin’s bondage and have eternal life. Amen.

We have freedom from sin because Jesus suffered and died for us. This gift is ours that comes to us through faith alone. “Stand firm, then, and do not allow anyone to put the yoke of slavery on you again.”
