Romans 1:16-17

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes—to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed by faith, for faith, just as it is written, “The righteous will live by faith.”

Dear Lord Jesus,

May we never be ashamed of the gospel—the good news of your forgiveness. Forgiveness is the most selfless, loving thing we can do for another person who has stumbled. You demonstrated love for us through your suffering and death on the cross. From the cross, you won us forgiveness for our every sin. This gift of forgiveness comes to us through faith in you for every person who believes, and it is in forgiveness that we have been restored to our heavenly Father—made righteous. Paul wrote, “the righteous will live by faith.” Knowing our sins removed, we live in peace, and by that righteousness. Strengthen our faith that we love those around us and forgive them when they make mistakes. Lord, you demonstrated great love towards us; let us reflect that love knowing we are reunited with the Father. Let our lives be guided by faith, resulting in us forgiving others because you forgave us. Let us also share this good news, never ashamed that you removed our sins. Amen.

Jesus told us that the key to heaven is the forgiveness of sins, and that is why it is the power of God. Only God can forgive sins to unlock heaven’s gate, but we have been given the gift to forgive others, so their sins are forgiven in heaven just as they are here on earth.
