Revelation 22: 14-17
Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the Tree of Life and so that they may enter through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, that is, the sorcerers, the adulterers, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star. The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears this say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who wants the water of life take it as a gift.
Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for restoring us through your holy life and innocent death. Salvation comes to us only through the washing of our robes—faith. We live in this sinful world and regularly fall to sin’s temptation; sin would divide us from you without repentance and forgiveness. However, in your life and death, you made forgiveness and salvation possible for everyone to be renewed to you, our God. It comes to all by faith alone. Yet those who reject the gift are the dogs outside who practice falsehood. They love the sin more than they love you; your love is there for all, yet they reject it. Those outside have subjected themselves to hell because they refused your love and mercy—this was their choice.
Thank you for sending us faithful pastors and teachers who have diligently taught the truth of your Word. The testimony of the repentance and forgiveness you won for us on the cross. So through your Spirit and the bride, the Church, we hear and trust this welcoming word to come and receive that life-giving water of forgiveness. Please fill us with this water so that through your Spirit, we will share the invitation with others who do not yet trust you so that they will also be filled with your gift and have their robes washed in the blood of David’s offspring—you, our Savior—and enter into your kingdom of heaven. Amen.
