Isaiah 51:6

Lift up your eyes to the heavens. Look closely at the earth beneath, because the heavens will vanish like smoke, and the earth will wear out like a garment, and its inhabitants will die like gnats. But my salvation will remain forever, and my righteousness will never be abolished.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We pray that you will keep our focus on what is essential and not what we see around us. Through Isaiah, you wrote to look at what we see, all of it will vanish and wear out, and people die like gnats. Everything around us is temporary to get us to our permanent home, while your salvation and righteousness will never go away.

Our sins destroyed your creation and brought death to all the world, including us. However, you sent your Son, and he brought us life. He won our salvation when he went to the cross in our place, and we are credited with his righteousness. Your love will never go away or wear out; you demonstrated to us through your plan of salvation. Jesus suffered and died to restore us, and the Holy Spirit delivered your gifts through faith, allowing us to believe in your mercy through Jesus’ forgiveness.

We pray that this Christmas season, you will make our focus continually on the gift of salvation you gave us through Jesus’ death on the cross. Please let us share this gift of forgiveness and life with someone who does not know or believe. That they, too, would receive your never-ending love. Amen.

Focus on what is lasting, God’s salvation and righteousness, which come from his love, grace, and mercy. These will never end.
