Isaiah 60:1-3

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord is dawning upon you. Look, darkness covers the earth, and deep darkness covers the peoples, but the Lord will dawn upon you, and his glory will be seen over you. Nations will walk to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for sending us the light of the world. Sin shrouds us in darkness; without you, there is no light. As Isaiah wrote, “darkness covers the earth, and deep darkness covers the peoples.” The shame is that most do not even know they are stuck in this darkness. However, you did not let the world stay in this darkness; you sent us the light, your Son. Jesus came veiled in human flesh, but to all who believe in him, he brings the light of the world. He overcomes our sin’s darkness, and the path to heaven is illuminated through him. It comes to us through his death on the cross, he suffered and died for all our sins, and those who do not believe are still left in sin’s darkness. For all who believe, we walk to the light of the world, Jesus.

The light is there for everyone, some are afraid of it, yet others refuse it wanting what the world offers, thinking the darkness gives them pleasure. So we pray that you would make opportunities for us to share your good news with someone today so that your Holy Spirit will begin faith in them and turn them towards this world’s light, Jesus.

Thank you for illuminating our sins so we can repent and receive Jesus’ free and complete forgiveness. Please lead us from our sinful desires and strengthen our faith in him. Amen.

No one likes the darkness their sins cause; many want to hide them so no one else will see them, but instead of hiding them, admit them to Jesus and allow him to take them away from you. It is there, through faith, you are restored to the peace only God can give.
