John 8:12

When Jesus spoke to them again, he said, “I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for sending us your Son to be the light of the world. In everything Jesus did, he offered the path to repentance and forgiveness. Jesus pointed out Judas and Peter’s sins, shedding light on what they had done so that they would have forgiveness, and it seems only Peter trusted Jesus and repented, while Judas chose the darkness and refused your light.

Lord, your message for us is about love and forgiveness; this is the light Jesus brought into the world. When we look at the requirements of your law, it is to love you above all other things, and we do that by loving others as we love ourselves. However, in our sinful nature, we often choose to love ourselves over you and everyone else, and it is there that we are caught in the darkness of our sins, trying to find self-love and complaining that no one loves us. For Jesus’ sake, please forgive us. Let us love you and desire to do your will.

Jesus went to the cross for all our sins and suffered our punishment because we were your enemies. In that midday darkness, forgiveness came to all people, the light shown in the darkness as Jesus called out, “it is finished.” Your love was displayed as your plan of salvation for all people delivered light to us. Lord, we thank you for not giving up on us when we rightly should have been condemned; thank you for restoring peace to us through Jesus—the light of the world.

Lord, we also pray that your love and forgiveness will reflect off us. When people rub us the wrong way, change our hearts to forgive others so that your light will shine through us. So they, too, will learn of the forgiveness Jesus had for them, and through faith, they will know they are saved. Amen.
