John 4:13-14
Jesus answered her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I will give him will never be thirsty ever again. Rather, the water I will give him will become in him a spring of water, bubbling up to eternal life.”
Dear Heavenly Father,
You made water a necessity we must drink to sustain the physical body. However, when Jesus was at the well with the Samaritan woman, he pointed out that no physical or earthly thing we chase after will offer us fulfillment. We hear her story of having five husbands; the current man she was living with was not her husband. When you are not in our lives, our sinful natures chase after the next thing trying to fill that void. Moreover, looking around, many people do not know you and are reaching for anything to fill their emptiness. So they keep going back to the well; for anything and everything. Grant us the opportunity to share your rest.
We thank you for faith in Jesus; it gives all who believe the rest they desire. You continually satisfy the needs of our hearts through your word and sacraments, so by making use of them, we know Jesus forgave our sins, and we have an assurance that he restored us to you. We have peace of forgiveness because Jesus went to the cross for every evil thought, word, and action; he did not leave one sin out. Jesus lived the perfect life, and for all who believe in him, he credits them with his perfection. So we thank you for the salvation that comes to us by faith; Jesus fills us all through the Spirit to have peace and rest for our souls.
We pray for you to continue to sustain our faith, and as a result, we share the rest and peace from you with others. Lord, this is actual rest, knowing we are reunited with you, and this is not temporary but for eternity. Amen.

Possessions will never give someone rest; without faith in Jesus, they search for the next thing. Peace comes from faith, knowing Jesus has forgiven all your sins, and you are restored to God.
