Ephesians 5: 8, 9

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.

Dear Heavenly Father,

As Paul wrote, we were in sin’s darkness before faith was in our lives, and faith brought us into the light of truth. As Christians, this does not mean every enticement to sin suddenly leaves us, and we walk about without problems, temptation, or sin. Quite the contrary! Satan comes at us with even more lures, challenges, and trials; then, we face the world’s hatred; our sinful desires work against us, wanting us to grab hold of all that seems enticing.

Walking in the light illuminates our sins; by faith, we also know Jesus went to the cross to suffer the punishment for all our sins. He suffered and died for us so our sins are removed. With our sins removed, we walk by faith that the Holy Spirit began in us; we walk as children of the light. As Paul wrote, it consists of goodness, righteousness, and truth. We cannot do this on our own we need you. Forgive us for Jesus’ sake and send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us by your word so we walk by faith and not desire.

We pray for two things. First that we do not take advantage of the forgiveness Jesus won and forgive us when we do. Second that our walking in faith will reflect your love onto others; so that we can share the good news about your love and forgiveness with them. Amen.

Walking in the light is not something you can do on your own. Instead, it is by having faith in Jesus that produces goodness, righteousness, and truth.
