2 Peter 3:8-9

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: For the Lord, one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord is not slow to do what he promised, as some consider slowness. Instead, he is patient, for your sakes, not wanting anyone to perish but all to come to repentance.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please be with us to keep these verses in their proper understanding; that is your patience for fallen mankind and desire for our salvation. You work according to what is best for our salvation and are patient. Forgive us when we become impatient about things we desire that have nothing for our deliverance, but we still expect them to happen now. Being a just God, you could end the world now because of all the sin and evil. Instead, through your patience, you demonstrate your love for us, wanting all to know you, including those who still push you away.

Your desire is for people to know about your love and believe in the gift of Jesus’ forgiveness he won on the cross when he suffered and died for the sins of all people. You don’t force people to believe, so you patiently share your gift with them so they will repent—acknowledge what they did wrong, and turn to you—so, at Jesus’ cross, all are forgiven and are received back to you. Because when we do, Jesus has already taken all our sins away; they are entirely forgiven.

As Peter wrote, you are patient for our sakes, not wanting anyone to perish. We thank you for being patient and keeping us in your care. We also pray that your patience will continue with those around us and that you will grant us opportunities to share the good news of your love and forgiveness with them so they will not perish either. Amen.
