Genesis 2: 2 – 3

On the seventh day, God had finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had been doing. God blessed the seventh day and set it apart as holy, because on it he rested from all his work of creation that he had done.

Dear Lord Jesus,

On the last day of the first week, you rested. You finished all your creative work; everything was complete; Moses recorded that you looked at the universe, calling it “very good.” On the first Good Friday, when you gave up your life, you entered your rest again, this time in victory over sin, death, and the devil. You willingly went to the cross to suffer our punishment; you endured the separation from your heavenly Father intended for us. When your suffering was complete, you willingly gave up your Spirit to defeat death for us. Satan no longer has a hold on us; he can no longer hold the threat of death over us because you rendered him his final blow by giving your life for ours. In your word, you told us: “The wages of sin is death, but the undeserved gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” In your death, on Good Friday, you covered our wages with your innocent suffering and death. Your work was once again completed, everything which had to be done to restore fallen mankind was finished, and you rested—work completed.

Through faith in you, we now enter your rest. Lord, forgive us all our sins and send us your Holy Spirit to remove all sin’s barriers that separate us from you and have your Spirit strengthen our faith in you. Lord, grant all that hear your words faith in you so that they will enter your rest. Move those around us to listen to your promise of forgiveness so they, too, will have your rest. Amen.

Only true rest comes from the one who pardoned all our sins with his holy life and innocent death. Jesus has forgiven you for every one of your sins.
