Psalm 100:5

For the Lord is good. His mercy endures forever. His faithfulness continues through all generations.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Let us rejoice in your goodness today; You have given us another day to spend in your grace and mercy; it is also another day to be with our loved ones on this earth and share the good news of your love. Your faithfulness continues even when ours does not and continues through all generations. Because of Your love, we can come to You and ask for Your forgiveness for all our sins. In Your Word, You assure us of Your complete pardon for our sins. Your mercy is not because of anything in us, but because of Your Son, Jesus came to this earth to suffer in our place. He took all the punishment for our sins to the cross with him, and it is by faith in Jesus that Your gifts of love, mercy, and forgiveness are delivered to us. So we rejoice because You are good; You did not leave us in our broken state of sin but restored us to You. So for all the times when we have given in to our sinful desires and have not loved You above all things, and for all the times we have thought, said, or done something hurtful to those around us, please forgive us. Lord, in Your forgiveness, we know You are good.

So please give us the strength also to forgive others when they sin against us; allow us to reflect Your love and forgiveness on them. Jesus taught us in the Lord’s Prayer “to forgive those who trespass against us.” And as the Holy Spirit inspired Paul’s writing to the Ephesians, “Forgiving one another, just as God in Christ has forgiven us.” Because we are forgiven, we forgive others through faith that Your Holy Spirit began in us. So let us rejoice in Your goodness and share this good news of Your love and mercy with all we meet, especially those who do not know You. Amen.

Knowing that your every sin carried a sentence to eternal destruction in hell and that God has forgiven all of your sins according to His plan of salvation through His Son’s death in your place, you realize how good God is.
