Romans 1:16-17

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes—to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For in the gospel, a righteousness from God is revealed by faith, for faith, just as it is written, “The righteous will live by faith.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

We pray that, like Paul, we will never be ashamed of the gospel. However, being honest, we must admit that when we face opposition from those around us, we clam up as though we are ashamed, so we pray for your forgiveness and courage. Through the gospel, we have your love, mercy, and forgiveness. We pray that you will send us your Holy Spirit to work in our hearts to believe and trust the gift of love you gave us. People are eternally condemned if they do not trust in Jesus’ salvational work—the holy life he lived and the innocent death he endured on the cross for all sinners. Only by faith in Jesus are we restored and made right with you. Please send your Spirit to begin or sustain our trust in you so that we live by faith in Jesus.

Through Paul’s writing to the Romans, you made it clear that it does not matter what family line we come from but rather that we have faith in you. Lord, we pray for the courage to share your gospel message with those who do not know you; let us not be ashamed because there is power in Jesus’ forgiveness, your love goes out to redeem everyone lost in their sins, and it is received by faith in your Son. So we ask that you let us be your spokespersons to share the good news of forgiveness today and every day with everyone we meet. Amen.

The power of God is forgiveness; by believing in Jesus and his work, you are taken from being condemned to salvation and eternal life—now that is power.
