Hebrews 1: 1 – 2

In the past, God spoke to our forefathers by the prophets at many times and in many ways. In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you for the immense grace you have given us and for all the ways you have communicated with us. It is no small thing that you assigned men to be your holy writers as the Holy Spirit carried them along to record your will for us. Which is for all people to know who you are so that by trusting in you, we have eternal life. Because our sins push us away from You, Your words told us Your plan of salvation to overcome our sins. You sent your one and only Son, Jesus, who was with You from eternity, making the universe.

He allowed himself to be part of the created order by taking on flesh. Through Jesus’ ministry, he taught us the importance of loving you above all other things and loving others as we love ourselves. But because we fail at this because of our sinful nature, He lived His life in perfect love and then credited us with his perfection; he willingly gave his life as a ransom for all people to forgive us all our sins. We receive this gift of forgiveness through faith alone—knowing, trusting, and believing in Jesus as our Savior.

You have appointed Jesus to be over everything, and we thank you for sending us your Son. May our response to the gift you have given us be that of love in return, that we would love you above all other things (including ourselves) and love others, not being afraid to share the good news of your forgiveness with them. Let them know, trust, and believe in you, and send your Holy Spirit to them so they will be forgiven and have saving faith. We pray that you will forgive us for Jesus’ sake when we fail to love you and others and share your will with them. Amen.
