Proverbs 19:20-21

Listen to advice and accept discipline, so that you will be wise in the future. There are many plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that will prevail.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for giving us Your Word, to advise us, and to teach us right from wrong. You also place others around us to provide godly counsel that takes us into the future. We come up with many plans for ourselves; some are short-term plans that get us into the next day, while others are long-term and take us into the future. We pray that you would bless our efforts so that we are not anxious about those plans; instead, we pray that they would give glory and honor to you. Let us not be anxious; instead, give us hearts that are ready to receive the discipline we sometimes need and other times, please give us timely and sage advice that gives glory and honor to you.

Please guide us according to your will so we will do what is pleasing in your sight, reflecting on the love you have lavished upon us. Let our plans reflect the forgiveness Jesus won for us on the cross, and allow us to serve others as Christ has served us and given his life up for us. We pray that all our plans are united with your plans so that we can share the good news of your salvation with others so they, too, will come to know Jesus as their Savior and receive faith from your Holy Spirit and be saved. Thank you for your advice, discipline, and wisdom, which all create a change in our hearts and lead us to salvation. Amen.

The Lord’s purpose is for the salvation of all people. Godly advice and discipline are to redirect you back to Jesus and to know the forgiveness of sins, which unlocks the gate to heaven and eternal life.
