Isaiah 30:18
But the Lord is eager to be gracious to you. He waits on high to have mercy on you, for the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who long for him.
Dear Heavenly Father,
It is only because of your love that you are gracious, merciful, and just. Nothing in us can explain why you would want to shower us with your goodness; we are entirely undeserving of your gifts, and our receiving them is based solely upon your love.
You are a perfect God, with a perfect love towards us; you created us to be the crown jewel of your creation. Yet, our pride gets in the way, causing us to be loveless towards you and others—our sinful nature and every time we sin, we should be condemned, but instead, you initiated your plan of salvation for us. So that by your grace—your undeserved love for us—you sent your Son to live the perfect life we could not; Jesus credits us with his perfection.
Then Jesus suffered upon the cross for the entire world’s sins so that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life; this is your mercy not giving us the punishment that is due us; instead, giving us eternal life, we do not deserve. Because you have punished your Son in place of us humans, those who believe in you will not have to fear being punished again for our sins because Jesus endured sins’ punishment.
Lord, you tell us we are blessed when we long to be with you in heaven. With all the turmoil and unrest happening in the world, let us keep our eyes fixed on your gifts of love. So that we know the promise that awaits us when this temporal life comes to its close, please grant us peace in all this chaos. Also, let us share the good news of your grace, mercy, and justice with those who do not know so that they, too, will believe in Jesus as their Savior and have the sure promise of everlasting life with you. Amen.
