Isaiah 42:5-7

This is what the true God says, the Lord who creates the heavens and stretches them out, who spreads out the earth and everything that it produces, who gives breath to the people on it and life to those who walk on it. I am the Lord. I have called you in righteousness. I will hold on to your hand, and I will guard you. I will appoint you to be a covenant for the people, to be a light for the nations, to open the eyes of the blind, to bring the prisoners out from the dungeon, and to bring those who sit in darkness out of prison.

Dear Heavenly Father,

What a promise you gave to Your Son, that he would be the covenant for all dead in their sins and trespasses. You sent Jesus to restore Your people, and You promised to be with him every step of the way. The gospel writers recorded how Jesus would go off alone to pray to You, and at other times, You sent your angels to minister to his needs.

All his work was to bring the light to all who are in the darkness of their sins and remove sin’s blindness. Jesus willingly came to set the prisoners—us—free from death’s bondage. Lord, we pray for the forgiveness that comes only through Jesus—his holy life and innocent suffering and death on the cross. So, for Jesus’ sake, please hear us, restore us, and set us free. Grant us faith that trusts You and Your promises to Your Son—that You would be with him, and because of Jesus’ work—and to us—so we know we have been restored into the light and freedom.

Lord, You created all the universe, including us, and sent Your Son to restore us to freedom. So, in our freedom and restoration, let us also share your gospel with those who do not know You; may the good news of forgiveness and salvation unlock sin’s prison cell, that through Jesus’ forgiveness, they, too, will know and trust in You. Amen.

We are all poor, miserable sinners, so Jesus came to free us all. He did his work with the Father standing by his side and anointed by the Holy Spirit so that we would have eternal life. Know and trust this: Jesus has set you free!
