Psalm 85:8-9
I will hear what the true God, the Lord, will say. He indeed speaks peace to his people, to his favored ones, but do not let them turn to foolish ways. Surely his salvation is near for those who fear him, so that glory may dwell in our land.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We are all looking for peace, so we listen to what you tell us. Lord, the times we live in seem dismal and challenging with all the strife and hatred happening around the globe. However, as Solomon once wrote, “There is nothing new under the sun.” We are not the first generation to see a power struggle between nations, and as Jesus said, as the end draws near, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed because all these things must happen, but that is not yet the end.” Looking at the world, it cannot give us peace. It is an absurd notion to think sinful humans can bring permanent, lasting peace.
You are the only one who can bring us peace, and that comes from the forgiveness of our sins. As Paul wrote, he was content in all situations, whether he had much or little. Contentment and peace come by knowing your Son; Jesus forgave us when he suffered our punishment upon the cross. Knowing that this life will end when we breathe our last or at Jesus’ second coming brings lasting peace because we will be home with You and no longer have to worry about the tribulations of this world. This world is not our home; we are only sojourners here, and heaven is our home. By remaining focused on heaven, the worldly things that try to cause us anger, hostility, anxiety, or any other negative feelings have no bearing on us.
So we pray that through your Holy Spirit, you would keep us firmly cemented in our faith in your Son so that we do not turn from you. Keep us according to your plan of salvation so that we remain focused on your lasting and eternal peace no matter what the world might cast at us. Allow us to share our eternal peace and hope with those who do not know you, so with a spark of faith, they will cling to Jesus as their Savior. Amen.

Peace from our sins is the only true and lasting peace we can have because it is there that we have confidence in the heavenly peace. Know you are forgiven, for Jesus’ sake.
