Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but stubborn fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Dear Heavenly Father,

The world likes to associate knowledge and learning according to its wisdom, what they can extract from observing the things around us. At one time, science was used to explain the consistencies of Your creation, explaining our environment in absolute laws of how You hold creation together by the different forces.

By nature, we have a natural knowledge of You and Your creation. We can observe the order You created and how species reproduce and fill the earth according to their kind.

We also know about Your presence because we have a conscience, knowing right from wrong. If there were no higher power than us, we would not need a conscience, yet we can become riddled with guilt and shame when we do something wrong.

Therefore, You go beyond just giving us natural knowledge; You also provide us revealed knowledge—what You show us in your Word. You told us about your plan for our salvation by sending your Son to suffer and die on the cross in our place.

To fear You is to trust and be confident in how You saved us through Your Son. He has given us his perfection and removed our sins, so through Your eyes, when You see those who fear You, You see Your Son’s perfection covering us, and he has declared us innocent, all our sins forgiven on account of his death and resurrection.

Those who reject You and Your word come up with out-of-this-world theories and hypotheses, and they can be some stubborn fools unwilling and despising You. We pray that through Your revealed knowledge, You would soften their hearts so that the world would seek Your truth and have true wisdom that only comes through You. Amen.

God’s word is for those of any IQ; he has made it for all to understand. We have sinned and deserve eternal punishment, but Jesus came, lived in our place, and then suffered our punishment so that all who fear and trust in him will have eternal life.
