2 Peter 3: 8 – 9

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: For the Lord, one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord is not slow to do what he promised, as some consider slowness. Instead, he is patient for your sakes, not wanting anyone to perish, but all to come to repentance.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Forgive us when we are impatient, acting like children eagerly waiting to open presents. We want things to happen on our timetable, and when we have to wait, our faith can slip, and we assume the worst. Not to mention when our pride gets involved, and we have all the answers to fix the world’s problems, including being quick to throw our judgments against others who are different than us. Moreover, when we are closing in on our end, we become even more impatient, wanting this life to come to its grand finale.

So we thank you for these words (inspired by the Holy Spirit) Peter wrote for us; they remind us of your patience for each of us. Your desire is not for people to perish but to come to repentance. So, you provide those opportunities for people to come to know you so that by believing in Your Son, our Savior, we will have eternal life. So we pray for forgiveness today; let us recognize all our sins and turn them all over to Jesus, even those we no longer remember. Grant us forgiveness so that we are restored to your good favor. Allow us to hold on to the forgiveness Jesus won on the cross that comes to us through faith.

Grant us opportunities to share Your love with those who still do not know You so that they, too, will know Your patience and repent for all their sin to receive the forgiveness that is theirs; please deliver to them the gift of eternal life through Christ. Amen.
