Time for Grace-December 23, 2023

John 1:14

The Word became flesh and dwelled among us. We have seen his glory, the glory he has as the only-begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Then, at the right moment in history, Your Son, Jesus, took on human flesh to live among us. We celebrate His birth each year, and perhaps we do not consider the gift that first Christmas delivered—that baby boy lying in a manger.

Jesus was conceived with the virgin miracle, having no earthly father, but rather life was started through the Spirit and You overshadowing Mary. Your Son becoming flesh was the only way You could restore the fallen human race from our sins.

Our gospel writer, John, witnessed Jesus’ ministry and glory; he began as a disciple of John the Baptizer in the wilderness. Then, as Jesus’ disciple, he observed His miracles, His glory at the transfiguration, the forgiveness at His death, and His victory on the first Easter morning. Jesus delivered that gift of redemption for our sins on the cross when He took all our sins into Himself.

That first Christmas morning, the Word became flesh, and He was laid in the manger; Your plan of salvation was put in place, and we received Your grace—undeserved love. Please keep us secure in our faith in Jesus so that we will never let go of the gift You delivered to us that first Christmas, and by faith, we trust in the forgiveness won for us on the cross because there we have salvation and eternal life. Let us also share our gifts with others so they will trust in the Word made flesh. Amen.

Christmas is more than shepherds, mangers, Mary and Joseph, or angels; that was God’s plan set in motion. So, what about Christmas makes Jesus the reason for the season? It was Easter and the resurrection, that moment when God’s salvation for us was won!
