John 8:12
When Jesus spoke to them again, he said, “I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Dear Heavenly Father,
Rarely are we without any light; even at night, we have ambient light from the stars and moon. Then, in our homes, we have those little lights to indicate something is running. But when all the light is gone, and there is no ambient light, that type of darkness can be eerie and chilling.
Sin causes this type of darkness; there is no ambient light, no illumination whatsoever. Without You, our souls flounder in darkness; people have a concept that something greater than themselves exists, but without You, they have no idea what it is. So, worldwide, societies make up gods to worship to appease that superior being.
Everyone came from Noah and his sons in the Old Testament, but many quickly fell away even though the promise of a Savior was given to them. So when Your Son came, He—Jesus—fulfilled that promise fulfilled. He was the light of life, so whoever believes in Him—your Son—will be saved. You have given us Your Word, which illuminates our sins and shows how we break Your will by breaking your commandments—being loveless towards you and others—which is sin.
We no longer stumble in the darkness of our sins because you sent your Son, who is the light. You sent Your one and only Son to live perfectly in our place and then suffer the punishment of our sins. Jesus is the light that illuminates the way to heaven, the light that overcomes the darkness of our sins. We have eternal life and salvation by believing in Him as our Savior. Through faith in Jesus, we never walk in darkness but have the light of eternal life to guide us home to you.
May we reflect Jesus’ light—His love and mercy—onto those who do not know you so that they, too, may see the light of faith in Him. Amen.

The tiniest of light overcomes the darkness of night. The light from Jesus brings eternal life and salvation to all who believe in him.
