Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Forgive us when problems come our way here on earth, and we quickly forget these words from Paul. Often, we fail to remember You did not promise to keep every trouble from coming towards those who love You. We live in a world affected by people’s fall into sin, troubles come our way, and You promised to work all things for our good.

When we or someone we love becomes ill, is plagued with disease, or cancer; if there is some other hardship, the loss of a job or a home; if we lose someone close to us, all these things can affect us to our core. They are painful, and they hurt; we might even wonder if we will ever be able to overcome that pain or loss.

However, You promise that You will work all things together for the good of those who love You. After all, You know what loss is; You gave us Your only Son to save us after we were condemned with the curse of death. You sent Your Son to pay death’s ransom price on Calvary’s cross so everyone who believes in Jesus will be saved and have eternal life.

His death was tragic; he was innocent and perfect. He loved You and us without one infraction of sin. He willingly carried out your salvational plan when he went to the cross to take on all our sins. So, faith in Him gives us eternal life and salvation. This gift has worked out our most significant problem, sin; without salvation, we would be lost for eternity.

Forgive us for Jesus’ sake, and comfort us, knowing You will work all things together for our good. So when we do suffer through pain and loss, we can focus our attention on You. Please sustain us in our times of suffering according to Your promise in Paul’s letter. May we share this comfort and peace with those who are suffering and do not know You or Your Son so they, too, will have and live in your peace. Amen.

When God promises to work all things together for your good, you can trust His words. He already demonstrated His love for you by sending His Son to suffer in your place so that through Jesus, you have eternal life.
