Matthew 6:19-21
“Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. Because where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Dear Heavenly Father,
Forgive us when we do not see the significance of our salvation. We become so wrapped up with the things of the world that our focus also goes in that direction. We fill our homes with stuff we will one day use, but usually, that one day never comes. Sometimes, we forget about what we have and buy its replacement. We gather all these things to make this life as easy as possible. As Jesus said, these things can easily be destroyed or stolen, and then what do we have left? The end of our lives comes, and not only are our things gone, but so are we. Without faith in Jesus, we will suffer for the rest of eternity in Hell.
Instead, we are to look for the treasures You have given us—heavenly treasures. It is in these gems that we have salvation and eternal life. In Your Word, You have given us Your salvational plan; Your Son came here to save us. Jesus willingly gave His life on the cross to pay the extreme price for all our sins; by faith in Him, we have eternal life. Our trust in Jesus is strengthened by being in Your word and sacraments; in them, we have the assurance of the forgiveness Jesus won for us. So, we ask that You, by Your Word, will strengthen our faith today so that we will store up heavenly treasures.
We also pray for those around us who do not know of these heavenly riches; let us, with all gentleness, share the good news of salvation and eternal life with them so they, too, may focus their hearts on You. Amen.

When this life comes to a close, you will spend eternity either suffering in Hell or rejoicing in heaven, and neither will ever end. What is more significant for you? Having the most of this life or having an eternity in heaven that is far better and never ends? Yours through faith in Jesus.
