John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him everything was made, and without him not one thing was made that has been made. In him was life, and the life was the light of mankind. The light is shining in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for John’s gospel, in which we hear how Jesus was with You from the beginning. He was the Word by which everything was created; in contrast, Jesus was not created but was always with you from eternity. He brought life into the world and restored it when we fell from Your grace.
Since He brought life into the world with You, it is understandable why He became part of creation to repair what we broke. He was the light that shone in the darkness of the world’s sins. Moreover, Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross overcame sin’s darkness and reestablished our broken relationship with You. There was no other way for us to be renewed to You than by Your Son’s holy life and innocent death.
Prepare our hearts to recognize sin’s darkness in us. Let us turn over all our sins to Jesus and ask for forgiveness for everything we have done in our thoughts, words, and actions. Renew our hearts for Jesus’ sake so His light shines through us. May we also reflect that forgiveness and love to others who do not know You so they might be restored to salvation and eternal life, trusting in Christ, our Savior. Amen.

Jesus was with the Father and Holy Spirit from the beginning; He was ready and prepared so that when the time was right to come to this fallen world, He would be the light that guides all who believe in Him to salvation and eternal life.
