Ephesians 5:8
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Please give us the control and strength to walk as children of light. We struggle every day as we live in this world because our old dark ways want to bother us continuously and attempt to pull us back into sin’s darkness.
We all begin our lives in the darkness of sin. In the letter to the Romans, Paul quoted David’s Psalm as he wrote, “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.” We were all in the darkness of sin, divided and pushed away from You. You could have left us there in our condemnation, but You didn’t. Instead, You established Your plan of salvation to bring us back into Your holy light.
You sent Your Son, who lived perfectly in our place and then endured our punishment upon the cross. Your Holy Spirit creates faith in each believer’s heart to receive this gift of forgiveness; by Your grace, mercy, and peace, we are restored to You and are now light.
Because our sins have been removed, this does not give us a license to sin, but we are to walk as children of the light; we walk by faith. Let our reaction to the love You have demonstrated to us be to love You and others in return; forgive us when we stumble in this and give in to our temptations.
We pray that as we walk by the light, the love we show to others might serve them to want to know more about Your light so that they, too, will come to faith, walk in the light, and receive the gift of forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life. Amen.

God’s plan of salvation was delivered to this world through Jesus. He made it possible for all believers to be brought from darkness into the light, and He restored us to Himself by faith alone in Jesus and His work.
