Jeremiah 6:16
This is what the Lord says. Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask about the ancient paths. Ask where the good road is. Walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Please tell us about the ancient paths today. Where is the good road? Does it begin with Adam and Eve when you had placed them in the garden? Perhaps the path led through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Were the ancient paths the ones of David or even the disciples and Paul? Those ancient paths were the same good road of faith.
However, when we look at Your Word, we see that there were times when the ancients did not always act faithfully; You did not hide their sins but included them, so we see the results of their actions. More importantly, we see their repentance and the forgiveness You gave them restoring them to You.
Adam’s choice to eat from the forbidden tree resulted in the world falling under the curse of sin. However, You did not leave us under that curse. You promised Adam a Savior to come; the Old Testament believers’ sins were removed by faith in the Savior that would come. Your Son came; Jesus was our Savior, and so, by faith in Him, our sins are also removed. He suffered the punishment for every sin. Faith in our Savior is that ancient path.
When we stand at the crossroads, we live by faith, knowing You give us all we need. When we chase down the wrong path and sin against You, we return to that ancient path and ask for forgiveness for all our sins because by walking in faith, our souls find rest. The sins that should condemn us to hell have been removed by Jesus’ death, and we are restored to You.
Guide us in these ancient paths and allow us to share Your peace with those who do not yet know You. Allow them to hear Your words and come to faith in Your Son so that they, too, will have the forgiveness of sins, salvation, and eternal life. Amen.
