Psalm 65:5-8
In righteousness you answer us with awesome deeds, O God who saves us. He is trusted by all the farthest ends of the earth and the sea. He establishes the mountains by his power. He has wrapped himself with strength. He stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the peoples. Those living at the ends of the earth fear your signs. From sunrise to sunset you let them shout for joy.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Looking at nature, we see your mighty hand working all around us. As volcanos form new mountains or waves of the ocean carve out a coastline, we see your mighty hand at work in them.
Jesus demonstrated divine power when he rebuked the wind and waves on the sea and calmed them all through his words. Likewise, you can rebuke the turmoil in our lives. As we live in the world, sin’s chaos affects us all, and we can have turmoil. You have established our challenge’s boundaries and limitations, no matter how harsh they might seem. All disorder and chaos come our way because of sin in the world, which began when our first parents fell into sin. That first sin affected all the world—including nature.
So, all who believe in you have a reverent fear of you because Jesus suffered for our sins. He died on the cross, so we have forgiveness and eternal life. In forgiveness, we are no longer condemned to eternal condemnation, but you promised us eternal life and salvation. Let us sing for joy confidently, knowing heaven is ours because of your grace, mercy, and love for us.
Allow us to share our songs of joy with others who do not know you. Let your word spark faith in them to know Jesus as their Savior so that if he can calm the waves of the sea, he can also relax the turmoil of their lives. Let them and us have peace, knowing we are reunited with you for eternity. Amen.
